How to unclog a shower drain?

Having a clogged drain can be very annoying, whether it’s the kitchen sink or the bathroom tub, it can be a very frustrating task to unclog it. So how can you easily unclog a drain? There are many clever methods that you can try at home, here are some of the most common and effective methods for unclogging a drain:

Boiling Water

This is the easiest and most inexpensive method, which makes it the best one to try first. Start off by boiling water in a kettle on the stove or in the microwave. Then, once the water is in a rolling boil, slowly pour the water into the drain. Do this little by little and let the water work through the blockage for a several seconds, then pour more until the blockage is gone. If the blockage is not removed, you may need to repeat this process several times, however this often does the trick for many types of clogs.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

You most likely already have these items in your home, so this is a perfect cheap solution to your clogged drain problem! All you will need is baking soda, vinegar, and hot water. First remove the stopper or strainer from the drain, then remove any hair or excess scum from around the drain. Pour boiling water down the drain, next pour in about a cup of baking soda, followed by an equal amount of vinegar. You will start to see the mixture begin to fizz immediately. This fizzing action is what helps remove the clog from the pipe. Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour, or leave it overnight. Finally wash it down with boiling water and the drain should now be unclogged.

The Drain Snake

The drain snake is a device that can come in handy when your drain gets clogged in your sink or bathroom tub. It is a long metal wire with a claw at the front, and can be found in most department stores. First remove the stopper or strainer from the drain, then, use a paper towel to clean the drain from any grim or hair. Feed the drain snake down the drain until you have reached the clog, slowly move the snake in a back and forth motion to let the blockage attach to the claw, now you can take the snake out with the blockage. Finally let the water run to make sure that the clog has successfully been removed.

Baking soda and salt

Another easy combination of products you can use are baking soda and salt. First remove the strainer or stopper from the drain, next mix about a cup of baking soda with half a cup of salt, pour this down the drain and let it sit for an hour, or leave it overnight. Then finally pour boiling water down the drain. You may need to repeat this process several times before the drain is unclogged.
